Losing Time was developed as a part of the directed project course at Brock University as well as being an entry for the 2020 Yuri game jam. The game was developed entirely remotely by myself and another artist, Clive Green.
I served as a producer on this project and handled the design, narrative, and programming of the game, as well as all music and character art.
The game was initially completed in December 2020 but an update to expand upon the original content is currently in progress.

Project Overview

Losing time is a 2D visual novel about Iphigenia, a young woman hiding some unique powers. After her girlfriend Morgane is kidnapped, it is up to Iphigenia to find out what happened and rescue her from whatever terrible fate awaits her.

Concept art of two characters, Morgane and Iphigenia. They are shown in profile.

Concept and Early Development

The idea behind Losing Time was to create a game based on the feeling of not fitting in. I wanted to create a character who felt apart from society in multiple ways, not only does Iphigenia have strange and unnatural powers, she's also a gay person in a time where it isn't safe to be open about her life and her identity. Keeping her whole life a secret has made it difficult to connect with others.

I also wanted to explore a time travel mechanic I hadn't previously seen in media, where travel is linear and the traveler can only hop between specific times and cannot travel through space to do so.

With these two concepts as the driving factor, Losing Time was born. Production started with a basic pitch, character concepts, and colour pallets. A list of deliverables and a timeline for the project was created, and once our proposal was greenlit, production began.
